My book would be remiss if it failed to mention Auburn’s nude beach down below and under the noses of the park personnel at ASRA. The beach has gotten attention lately since this stretch of the river is now open to rafting after years of closure while the dam project was still viable. So far no one is complaining but you should be warned that this beach used to be a coed/family affair perhaps 20 years ago—butt today it’s a meeting place for gay men.
Directions: Find Gate #131, half mile up Highway 49 from river, on Auburn side. Park along highway if you can find a spot.
