Wildman Hill

TRAIL ALERT: The bottom section of the Wildman Hill trail is now closed due to a boundary dispute.

5 miles from Bell Tower. Steep choices.                                                      MAP

In 2006 this 233 acres of land was acquired by the American River Conservancy (ARC) and added to BLM lands already held along this area of the South Fork. Kelsey Creek flows through the parcel and has nice waterfall (especially in Spring) about half way down a trail to the river.

Directions: Take Highway 49 out of Placerville and turn R on Highway 193 towards Georgetown. Cross the bridge at the river and continue up about 2 miles to find the trailhead near the large acquisition sign on the Left.

The trails begin as a road beyond the locked gate at 193. The right trail is steeper and drops with switchbacks to the river at its confluence with Kelsey Creek. The left trail is an old but still steep road that winds its way down to the river closer to Chile Bar. A great ditch trail connects the other trails along the river.
