18 miles from Auburn Courthouse. Easy 4 miles.
Ponderosa way gives good access to the North Fork from Weimar and also gives access to an easy walk to a nice waterfall up Codfish creek. Great hike for kids and adults, there’s even a nature guide near the start of the trail to help introduce you to the native plants. This is a popular trail so you may wish to go on a weekday to enjoy more privacy.
Directions: Take interstate 80 east from Auburn 13 miles to the 2nd Weimar exit. Turn right on Canyon way and go ½ mile to turn L on Ponderosa. Go approximately 5 miles down to the river. The trail goes downstream from the Weimar side.
The trail follows along the river fairly flat for a mile before turning up Codfish creek with a gentle climb for ¾ mile more to the falls. Best in early spring of course but always wet and cool otherwise.
