Directions to trailhead: Follow I80 to Auburn and take the Foresthill Rd. exit. Drive 17 miles to the Mosquito Ridge Rd. junction (on the right). Set trip meter to 0.0 and continue straight on Foresthill Rd. to Robinson Flat campground at 27.4 miles. Turn right and park in the day use area.

Elevation: 6435’ to 7174’(1715’ total elevation gain)

Distance: 6.5 miles (includes 0.5 mile side trip to Duncan Peak LO)

Difficulty: Moderate

Jurisdiction: Tahoe National Forest

Trail description: Initially, the trail trends generally south along the west border of the meadow. Keep the meadow on your left and the brown bungalows on your right. Cross a foot bridge and walk up a moderate slope for about a mile to a ridge, where this leg of the trail terminates at a “T”. From here, you can enjoy spectacular views of French Meadows Reservoir, Red Star Ridge, and Duncan Canyon. A short walk along the right (westward) arm of the “T’ will bring you to the Duncan Peak Lookout which is manned during the fire season. Taking the left (eastward) arm of the “T’ will bring you back to your starting point at camp, by means of a series of switchbacks, a foot bridge, and the Western States trail.
