Directions to trailhead: Follow I80 to Auburn and take the Foresthill Rd. exit. Drive 17 miles to the Mosquito Ridge Rd. junction (on the right). Turn right and set trip meter to 0.0. Continue on Mosquito Ridge Rd. 12.4 miles to the trailhead (marked).

Elevation: 2428’ to 1490’ (1659’ total elevation gain)

Distance: 2.2 miles round trip

Difficulty: Moderate

Jurisdiction: Tahoe National Forest

Trail description: After an initial climb, the trail descends steadily to the river. Many gold-cup oaks are seen on this trail. There are many pleasant picnic spots on the bank of the M.Fk.Am.R. Because of its southern exposure, the trail is most pleasant in the spring, fall, and winter.

Campsites: Many campsites near the river.
